It is such a great experience to see my sons growing and learning every day. Baby 1 is nearly two years old and we have some of the temper tantrums that come along with that, but I so enjoy hearing him try to count (1-2-3-5-6-8-9-2-5-8) and learning new words (Tiger, pronounced Tie-ter, "Raar!") and even social standards ("Oops! Sorry!" Pronounced: Oo! Sye-ee).
Baby 2 will be eight months old this month. He just started doing a great army crawl and he eats anything (anything!) he can get his hands on. I feed him a lot of Cheerios. His brother feeds him crackers, bread, even cat food if I'm not careful. He gets so excited about food (even his peas) and he's memorized what the Cheerios box looks like (and sounds like).
I sometimes laugh when I hear people say, "That's such a fun age." because it seems like it doesn't matter what age your child is, someone will say that about your child. "Oh, 3 months! That's such a fun age!" "Oh, one year old! That's such a fun age!" "Oh, 5 is such a fun age!" Oh, 13 is... well... you'll get through it." It's just one of those things people say, I suppose... but that's really not the point of this post.
I recently read somewhere (and I'm not sure where or I'd give appropriate credit - if anyone can help out I'll be sure to update with proper credit) that "As long as you're green you're growing. As soon as you're ripe, you start to rot."
In an effort to be green (and growing) I'm thinking of starting a new "project." I think I want to become a doula. For those of you who are not familiar with the term, a doula is a non-medical labor assistant for women and their partners who are giving birth. I had a doula present for both of my babies births and she was wonderful! I don't think I'd ever give birth without a doula if I had any say in the matter. My family and friends have been super supportive as I've mentioned my interest in taking this on. I just love being around pregnant women and new moms. I'd love to support women during this joyful though sometimes intimidating time in their life. I will, of course, keep you updated on my progress. We'll just see how this goes.

Nashlantis
Yes, some are making light of a dark situation and calling my current hometown of Nashville, "Nashlantis." Being one who enjoys a little levity in such a situation I have chosen to do the same in this blog post.

It is catastrophic. Entire neighborhoods flooded... all you could see were roofs. People took boats down roads I have frequented to rescue tourists who were stranded on the second and higher stories of a hotel. Business were destroyed. Cars, flooded. Catastrophic about sums it up.
I am sad for Nashville. My family and I came out unscathed, save the loss of two of our favorite hang-out spots - The Opryland Hotel and neighboring Opry Mills Mall (where, apparently, two piranha escaped from their aquariums at The Aquarium Restaurant and are now swimming around the mall!), but it is still sad. We are very sad to have lost these places and more, but many people lost homes, cars, livelihoods, loved ones and lives. Entire neighborhoods have been washed away. A couple of houses with flooded first floors caught fire and burned from the roof to the flood... no one could get to these homes in order to put the fire out.
Now, residents of Davidson county are being asked to conserve water. A few of us are taking this seriously - following the "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down" rule, not showering and not washing dishes. A few of us aren't taking it so seriously, such as a nearby golf course that had it's sprinklers going yesterday (yes, after torrential rain and severe flooding... sprinklers). The problem is that one of our two water stations has been submerged. The other could handle 90% of our typical need, but we have to keep enough water pressure within the system to keep it from being flooded and contaminated. I'm so glad I'm still a part time cloth diaperer! I wouldn't be able to wash diapers so I'm glad that I have disposables handy!

Save Home Birth!
Hello dear friends and followers!
As you probably know by now I have birthed two precious little boys. Both were natural births, both were attended by a midwife and both were in the hospital. It was the most amazing thing each time. At the time that each of my babies were born I was not in a position to have a home birth. It just wasn't for me at the time. However, I fully believe that a woman has the right to have her baby wherever she sees fit. That may be at home, at a birthing center, or at a hospital. Here in Tennessee there are some new regulations being considered that will seriously endanger a woman's right to have her baby at home with a midwife present. Please, please, please check out this link and find out if there is anything you can do to help protects women's rights to a birth in the place she is usually most comfortable... home.

Of Schedules and Diaper Changes
I wonder...
and perhaps that is the source of all my problems, but still, I wonder.
Does any mom ever have everything pulled together? I'd like to get on a schedule and get things done. It seems like it should be so easy. Take care of the babies, keep the apartment clean, and still have time for blogging and for me. And yet, it all takes longer than I ever anticipate it will.
Examples:
1. A diaper change turns into a clothes change, turns into cuddle time, turns into snack time, turns into clean up time and just maybe another clothes change which probably means another diaper change while we're at it.
2. Doing the dishes turns into cleaning the kitchen (even when I promised it was just the dishes for now!), turns into cleaning random spots off the wall, turns into cleaning random spots off the floor (and my mop is where?), turns into picking up Baby One's toys, turns into vacuuming the floor, turns into comforting Baby One, turns into cuddle time, turns into a diaper change (see example number 1).
3. Blogging turns into checking my email, turns into checking facebook, turns into checking twitter, turns back into blogging, turns into visiting other blogs, turns into visiting SITS, turns into visiting MORE blogs, turns into me remembering that the dishes need done (see example number 2).
And then, I wonder...
